James H. VanSciver - Player

His baseball career started not as a pitcher but playing various other positions at Lewes High School where he was captain of the team his Junior and Senior years. After high school, he went to Pennsylvania Military College where he started doing some great pitching. Won 20 games and in his senior year averaged 13 K's with a ERA of 1.53. Highlight of college was pitching two games against Albright College and winning both 7 inning games. Played five years in Delaware Semi Pro league in the Wilmington area where he pitched in four All Star games, winning all four. After a long layoff he started his pitching once again, this time for Peaky's in the new Eastern Shore League. This natural left hander started with a 6 2 record in 1984 and continued to have a winning record thru 1988 while playing with much younger players. In 1987 he was named ESBL's Outstanding Pitcher with a 9 1 record and a 1.55 ERA. These years included All Star Teams or appearances in the Eastern Region Tournament.
