Jerry V. Borga - Player

Inducted in 2011

He received two awards at the Seventh Annual Easton Little league Banquet. He was a batting champion in 1958 for the Easton Elks team with a batting average of .617 and fourth in pitching with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses.
Jerry was a player and a leader for the Easton High School baseball team. During the time he played for the baseball team Easton only had three losses in four years. Jerry's regular position for the team was third base, but he would play any position needed by his coach.
Jerry was a superb third baseman. He had a strong, accurate arm, was very quick as a fielder, and able to make the difficult plays required by a third baseman. His high school coach John Leverage said he was a Brooks Robinson quality type player.
After high school Jerry continued excelling in baseball. At Western Maryland College he won the state collegiate batting crown with a .435 batting average and was named first team third baseman on the Mid-Atlantic all-star team and the Baltimore Sun papers All-Maryland team.
Jerry was also selected to be on the U. S. All-Star team. He played in the 20th Annual Hearst Sandlot Classic at Yankee Stadium where he belted a homerun over the left-center field 371 foot sign on the first time at bat. He was also selected for the Orioleland All-Star team.
Jerry was selected by the Houston Astros in the 1965 Baseball draft.
