Wayne Mitchell - Player/Booster

Wayne Mitchell began his baseball career in 1953 with the Delmar Choo Choos of the Wicomico Sandlot League. He continued his baseball career at Delmar High School as a catcher. The Sharptown American Legion team won the Eastern Shore region in 1956, and Wayne started five games in the state tournament at College Park. His next move was with the Delmar Railroaders in the Central Shore League during its last two years in 1958 and 1959. From 1961 through 1963, he was the starting catcher for Bridgewater College in Virginia, serving as captain his junior and senior years. During his junior year, Bridgewater tied for the Little Eight conference championship. In his senior year, Bridgewater won the Mason-Dixon Conference Championship. After his playing years, he continued in baseball as a little league and senior league coach, and as an umpire at the high school level. In 2011, Mitchell was elected to the ESBF Board of Directors, serving as Secretary from that time to present.
