John Patrick Murphy - Sports Writer

John Patrick Murphy (Sports Writer) - He was an amateur player who grew up to write about baseball locally for Sussex Newspapers. He wrote about Laurel Baseball and Football games.
John was an advocate for youth baseball. He was president of the Laurel Little League in the 1980's. John was the first to get involve with T-Ball program in Delaware. He umpired many little league games including the All-Star Eastern Regional games. He also managed Little League Baseball for about 10 years.
John was the organizer of the Little League Baseball Banquets in the late 1970's until 1981. The attendance at these banquets ranged from 300 to 775 on the last one he organized.
John not only enjoyed making sure the game of baseball thrived in Sussex, he was also a great baseball fan who attended over 1000 Phillies games.
