Joby Hearn - Player

Joby graduated from Delmar High School in 1944 and joined the Army where he played baseball for service teams. He began his 12 year baseball career in 1947 when he signed wih the Delmar Railroaders. For the 1952-53 seasons Joby played professional ball in the Georgia State League, and with Cincinnati of the South Carolina League. He rejoined the Railroaders in 1954, where he was feared at the plate. In 731 trips to the plate Joby had 244 hits, 32 doubles, 21 triples, and 151 rbi, and an overall average of .334.
For more than 20 years Joby taught baseball in local Little and Colt Leagues. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1980 and was an avid fox hunter. Joby was one of the first selections into the Eastern Shore Hall of Fame with the initial inductions in 1982.
